New Catholic Deaf Centre in Wales
Thanks to the generosity of parishioners up and down the country who
gave to the 'Day for Life' collection last year, the newly opened
Catholic Deaf Centre in the Archdiocese of Cardiff has just received
a cheque for £3,000.
Bubbling with enthusiasm, Sr Mary Chisholm
declared, "We now have a
wonderful new building. As you can
imagine, equipping the new centre has not been cheap. In
the light of this we are absolutely delighted to receive a cheque for
£3,000 from last year's 'Day for Life' collection. With our
new centre, we look forward to serving deaf, hard of hearing and
deafened people in
Archbishop Peter Smith added, "I'm delighted
that 'Day for Life 2006' has been able to support the invaluable work
of the Catholic Deaf Service which does a great job in providing much
needed spiritual and practical support to deaf and hard of hearing
people throughout
"Last year's 'Day
for Life' celebrated the life and presence of disabled people in the
Church and in society today. A number of disability
projects and organisations will receive financial support, and work
will begin on a national resource to provide disability awareness
education/catechesis programmes for use in parishes and in
schools.
