Daughters join "End Child Poverty Rally"
On Saturday 4th October 2008 Daughters of Charity and members
of the Vincentian Family were among the thousands who marched
through central London calling on the British Government to end
child poverty. The
'Keep the Promise' march, was organised by the End Child Poverty Campaign,
a coalition of 120 organisations, and included many children who
gathered at Millbank before marching to Trafalgar Square for the
rally. More than one third of UK children live in low-income
families or in poverty. (a family in poverty is defined as one
which has £10 per person per day or less to live on)
Before the march, representatives from the group met Prime minister, Gordon Brown, at Downing Street. After the meeting he repeated a pledge to impose a legal duty on the Government to eradicate child poverty in Britain by 2020.
