Solidarity with Homeless People - Bristol
A Sleep Out, in the grounds of Pip 'n Jay Church (Saints Philip
and Jacob) BRISTOL, took place on Friday 27th February, 10pm -
7am, for the support of homeless people. It was organised by
Bristol Christian Action Network (BCAN for short). Reasons
being;-
1 To raise awareness of the plight of homeless people in
Bristol.
2. To raise funds for organisations/Churches involved in
ministry with homeless people.
3 To demonstrate how these groups work together.
4 To voice our protest about what is a national scandal -
thousands of empty homes in England,Wales,
Scotland and Northern Ireland. Every person has a right to
decent housing.
Seven
of us from St. Nick's Parish took part in the Sleep Out for
the above reasons and to experience, in solidarity with our
homeless sisters and brothers, a taste of the hardships they
endure nightly. We were being sponsored for our daily Door
Ministry with homeless people from Assisi House, our Parish
Centre.

A total of seventy two people took part on the night of the
sleep - out, from eleven different organisations/Churches.
There was much friendly chatting among us, as we stood
around with mugs of soup or hot drinks, before settling down
for the night. We all survived and lived to tell the tale!!
The total amount raised for the Door Ministry was £1305.72
