... a new Provincial Leader, a new Provincial House, a new chapter in our history...

On Saturday, 28th June 2008, Sister Marie Raw became the fourteenth Visitatrice (Provincial Leader) of the Daughters of Charity in the British Province.

At present, there are 191 Sisters throughout England, Scotland and Wales living in in 29 local communities.

The highlight of the event was the Eucharist concelebrated by Fr Fergus Kelly CM, Fr Philip Walsh CM and Fr Hugh McMahon CM in the Sacred Heart Church, the Vincentian parish in Mill Hill, London. Sister Marie was surrounded and supported by nearly three quarters of the Province, including Sister Sarah King-Turner, outgoing Provincial Leader, together with  Margaret Barrett, Assistant General, who had come for the occasion from
the Mother-House in Rue du Bac, ParisMass

In his homily, Fr Fergus Kelly urged the Sisters to pray every single day for Sister Marie, as she travels along this new path opening up before her.  In his word portraits of contrasting scenes and realities, he made it clear how much prayer is needed, especially for Christians today. Against the background of persecution and repression, there is also the reality of unselfishness and kindness. These are opportunities to recall St Vincent de Paul's words:  "Kindness is the key to hearts". As a final word, Fr Fergus reminded Sister Marie, and all, that this new call she has received comes from the loving Providence of God.

After the Eucharistic celebration, all made their way to the Provincial House for a meal and the opportunity to meet and enjoy being together for a few hours.  All too soon, those who had travelled long distances had to begin their homeward journeys, full of the joys of having shared in this important step in the life of the Province.
