Prayer Vigil for Asylum Seeker

VigilOn 11th March 2009 Daughters of Charity living in the inner-city parish of St Nicholas of Tolentino, Bristol joined parishioners at a prayer vigil outside Trinity Road Police Station to show solidarity with Dieamerci Kasongo Kongolo and his family. Dieumerci was being held in a detention centre in Cambridge after he was detained when he went to sign on at the police station earlier in the week. He had been taken to Heathrow Airport the previous Monday but a judicial review into his case was granted just as he was about to be put on a Kenyan Airways flight to Nairobi. He is in fear of his life incase he gets returned to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).The vigil, organised by the parish priest, Fr Richard McKay,  was a quiet occasion during which the Sisters and many people of the parish joined others to pray for justice for Dieumerci and his family. Dieumerci's wife Stella and two of their children were also present.
