The Mystique of Living Together
Belonging to an International Community of Daughters of Charity
The Company of the Daughters of Charity of St Vincent de Paul was founded in Paris in 1633 by St Vincent de Paul and St Louise de Marillac for the service of persons living in poverty. Today there are some 20,000 of us living in 93 countries across the five continents. The Company is multiracial - our Sisters come from a whole variety of ethnic backgrounds - and we serve persons living in poverty regardless of who they are or where they come from. Daughters of Charity share the same Vision and Vocation. The internationality of the Company is a great source of strength and support. Together, and in collaboration with others, we can do more than any one of us could do alone. Our connectedness enables us to have a global impact. Our Founders considered prayer and community life, two of the essential supports of our way of life. Our different personalities, talents and skills bring a richness to our community living and ministry. Our lives together, lived in faith, are mutually enrishing and have a "mystique" about them because they are rooted in the mystery of the Trinity, whose heart is LOVE.
